AOBIM Regulations, Requirements and Procedures

The American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM) was established in 1942 as a not-for-profit affiliate of the American Osteopathic Association. The certification and recertification program in Internal Medicine and of any other subspecialty or specialty field that may be assigned to this Board is designed to recognize excellence among those individuals who provide care in the discipline of internal medicine.

Certification by the Board is not a requirement to practice internal medicine. The Board does not intend either to interfere with or restrict professional activities of a licensed physician because the physician is not certified or recertified in a particular specialty or subspecialty of internal medicine.
